Mariusz Waras was born in 1978 in Gdynia (Poland). In 2004, he graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk where he worked as a teaching assistant at prof. Jerzy Ostrogórski’s studio (2008-2014). For three years, he run the Graphic Design Workshop at the Department of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. In 2013, he obtained his PhD at the Department of Painting of the Gdańsk Academy. Since 2014, he has been working as a teaching assistant at prof. Henryk Cześnik’s Painting Workshop. Since 2015, he runs the Street Art Studio at the Faculty of Painting and New Media at the Academy of Art in Szczecin.
He is a street artist, graphic designer, and illustrator who makes use of stencils. He builds art installations, curates exhibitions and travels the world. He is the author of the m-city project that encompasses hundreds of murals. His works have been featured in the number of group and solo art shows hosted in Poland and abroad. He is the chief curator of the 238×504 Hoarding Gallery in Gdynia, as well as one of the three curators of the exhibition series about street art in Poland. His fascination with a city and urban initiative is clearly evident in his works that include both smaller posters and large-scale murals over hundreds square meters.
